Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of French Bites (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

French Bites helps you learn French verb conjugation through a verb search & conjugation matrix, spelling quizzes, and short practice dialogues ("Scenarios"). Some content — including example sentences, quiz sentences, and audio — is written or generated specifically to illustrate grammar and conjugation, as detailed in our Disclaimer.

2. Eligibility & age

French Bites is intended for a general audience learning French. You can use Search, Quiz, and Scenario without an account, at any age, with progress saved only on your own device.

To reduce confusion from different age-of-consent rules across countries (13–16 depending on jurisdiction), we use a single, more protective threshold everywhere: 16. If you create an account, one of the following applies:

• You are 16 or older — you register with your own email, as normal.
• You are under 16 — a parent or legal guardian registers and manages the account on your behalf, using their own email rather than a separate "child" email or date of birth.

At sign-up, we ask you to confirm this via a checkbox — a self-declaration, not an identity check. We do not knowingly allow a child under 13 to register directly (i.e. without a parent/guardian registering on their behalf). See the "Children's privacy" section of our Privacy Policy for details.

3. Accounts

• You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.
• Provide accurate information when creating an account (e.g. a real, working email address).
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, are used fraudulently, or are inactive for an extended period.
• You can delete your account at any time in Account settings (Delete my account). Deleting your account removes your French Bites login and learning data stored with us. It does not by itself cancel or refund a Creem subscription or payment. If you have Pro, cancel renewal (and request a refund if eligible) in Account → Plan → Manage billing before you delete your account.

4. Billing, cancellation & refunds

French Bites offers a 14-day free trial (no card required) and optional paid Pro subscriptions (monthly or annual). During the trial you have full access; after it ends you need an active Pro subscription to keep using paid features. Details are on our pricing page.

• Free trial. When you create an account, we start a one-time 14-day trial with full app access. No payment method is required to start the trial. When the trial ends, access to paid features stops until you subscribe to Pro.
• Merchant of Record. Payments are processed by Creem as Merchant of Record. Card details are handled by Creem (and its payment partners), not stored by French Bites. Creem's own terms and privacy notice also apply to the payment relationship.
• Payment is tied to the email already registered on your account — we won't ask you to register again or collect a second email for billing.
• For an account registered by a parent/guardian on behalf of a learner under 16 (see "Eligibility & age" above), that parent/guardian's payment method is what gets charged.
• Before completing checkout, you must confirm that you are an adult, or an adult paying on behalf of a minor in your care. Payment will not proceed without this confirmation.
• Prices may be shown in euros or US dollars depending on region and include applicable tax. Introductory (“early bird”) pricing applies to the first billing period only; see Early bird pricing (§4.1) for current rates and renewal terms.

4.1 Early bird pricing

Early bird is a limited-time introductory offer for new Pro subscriptions. It applies to your first billing period only — the first month on a monthly plan, or the first year on an annual plan. When that period ends, your subscription renews at the regular rate shown below unless you cancel before the renewal date.

Current rates (tax included):

• The price shown at Creem checkout is what you pay for your first billing period. Creem also shows the regular renewal rate before you complete payment.
• Early bird may be withdrawn for new signups at any time. If you subscribe while it is active, your first period stays at the early bird rate; later renewals use the regular rate in effect for your plan.
• You can cancel anytime from Account → Plan → Manage billing so you are not charged again after the period you already paid for.

4.2 Cancellation

• You may cancel a Pro subscription at any time from Account → Plan → Manage billing (Creem Customer Portal), or by contacting us at [email protected].
• After you cancel, you keep Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for; then the account returns to the free tier. Canceling stops future renewals; it does not by itself refund the current period.

4.3 Refunds

• Where you are entitled under applicable law (including any mandatory cooling-off rights), those rights apply.
• Separately, you may request a refund within 14 days of purchase if Pro has not been substantially used — for example, only a brief look at paid features, without meaningful quiz, scenario, or review use beyond a short trial of the paid tier.
• After 14 days, or once you have substantially used Pro features, payments are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law. Annual plans are not refunded on a pro-rata basis for unused months after the refund window.
• To request a refund, email [email protected] from the address on your account and include the purchase/order details if you have them. We aim to respond within three business days.
• Refunds may take 5–10 days to appear on a customer's statement.
• Please contact us before opening a chargeback so we can help. Unjustified chargebacks may lead to suspension of the account.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use automated tools to scrape, bulk-download, or republish our verb, example-sentence, or audio database.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its underlying systems.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to harass, impersonate, or harm others.
• Circumvent any access or rate limits we put in place.

6. Intellectual property

The Service — including its design, code, verb data, example sentences, scenario dialogues, illustrations, and audio — is owned by French Bites or used under license, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for your own language learning. You may not copy, resell, or redistribute the content for commercial purposes without our written permission.

7. Educational content, not professional advice

French Bites is a self-study tool, not a certified language course or a substitute for a qualified teacher. We make a good-faith effort to keep grammar explanations and examples accurate, but we do not guarantee that the content is error-free, complete, or sufficient to pass any specific exam or certification (e.g. DELF, DALF, TCF). See our Disclaimer for more detail on how to treat example sentences and AI-generated audio.

8. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including — to the extent permitted by law — warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, French Bites and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, learning outcomes, or exam results, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers (e.g. Supabase for authentication and data storage, Google for optional sign-in and fonts, and our hosting provider). Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' own terms and privacy policies.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service, or delete your account in Account settings, at any time (see Accounts above for how deletion interacts with billing). We may suspend or terminate access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
